If not using marble cleaner mix a squirt of gentle non abrasive dish soap with warm water in a spray bottle and spray the counter generously. For most organic food stains the marble institute recommends cleaning with a solution of 12 hydrogen peroxide and a few drops of ammonia.

If you spilled anything oil based like a vinaigrette. Water stains can be easily removed from marble. Don t use abrasive cleaner or pads either because marble can be scratched. But first you should remove any large crusty hard water build up using a plastic scraper to get the bulk of it off.

You can either use regular marble cleaner or try removing the stain using grade 0000 steel wool. Acidic and abrasive cleansers are a big no no for marble counters because they can scratch and stain the surface. This will remove dirt but won t heal any etching or stains.
